Since opening in 1999, the Bluewater shopping and leisure complex has attracted thousands of shoppers with its bold design and grand scale. A lesser known attraction of the site is the range of wildlife and bird species that have made their home in the site's 37 reed beds.
MTS was chosen to clean the reed beds at Bluewater, taking account of ecological factors and the biodiversity of the site which includes nesting birds, voles, common lizards, slow worms and grass snakes.
The MTS Super Sucker and Confined Space Team successfully removed 90 tonnes of silt and 10 tonnes of reeds which were transferred to local recycling depots. The Bluewater reed beds were refreshed and continue to keep the surrounding lakes in perfect condition.
