Whitacre Water Treatment Works near Birmingham is part of Severn Trent Water’s network supplying fresh water to 7.4 million people in central England and mid Wales.
In nine days MTS completed a comprehensive clean of a lagoon measuring 60m x 30m and around 1.7m deep. A high volume pump agitated and thinned the sludge ahead of removal. The pictures show the four wheel drive tractor equipped with a scraper working in the lagoon.
We removed a total of 2,280 cubic metres of waste using a mixture of 26,000 litre and 18,000 litre tankers. More than 98 tanker loads of waste went to Midlands sewage treatment works for disposal including Claymills and Finham.
