MTS tankers supported the fire fighting effort when Ocado’s flagship depot in Andover suffered a devastating blaze.
The high-tech robotic warehouse suffered substantial damage from the fire which burned for 48 hours from the early hours of Tuesday 5 February.
Our customer Southern Water called us in to help and three MTS tankers went to assist the fresh water tankers already on site. Our vehicles fed water to storage dams for use by the Hampshire Fire and Rescue teams.
Three more MTS tankers joined the effort on Wednesday afternoon, by which time there were more than 200 fire fighters on the scene. Fresh water supplies were running critically low in the area and we worked with Southern Water and the Environment Agency to ensure local residents and businesses did not lose supply.
Derek Roffe, manager of MTS Chickenhall in Hampshire, coordinated our response to the emergency. Derek said; “Our tankers continued to feed the water storage dams from the nearby River Anton until we were told to stand down on Thursday afternoon, when the fire was finally put out.”
