The MTS training team have been put to the test during the Covid-19 lockdown. MTS employees are key workers and new starters need to receive proper inductions into our ways of working safely. Existing staff need to keep their key skills and qualifications up-to-date.
Rachel Court, MTS in-house trainer and Charlotte Taylor, our training advisor, are working hard to adapt the delivery of our training support during the current restrictions.
We have more than 400 employees based at depots ranging across the south east and the Midlands. With face-to-face inductions and training courses on hold, the team are now using Zoom for some remote training sessions.
We are currently rolling out our new bespoke manual handling training film, made in partnership with Pristine Condition International and filmed at MTS HQ. Rachel sent a link to the film to all our staff, along with some quick questions on the key messages to check that everyone had viewed it and understood the content.
Rachel said; “We’re getting great feedback on this new film. It focuses on the real-life situations that our operatives face daily, so it’s much more immediate and relevant than generic training films.”
As well as updating our e-learning resources, the training team have condensed our five-day induction programme into a two-day version which can be more easily delivered with social distancing restrictions. Rachel said; “We have adapted the content of the induction and also the physical space in our training centre. This means everyone can maintain social distancing and get the key information they need as quickly as possible, minimising the risk of infection as far as we possibly can.”
The team are looking forward to resuming training sessions for external customers as soon as the MTS Board deem that it is safe to do so within the government guidelines.
Scott Diamond, MTS Compliance Director said; “I am extremely proud of our training department for adapting their way of working to support MTS and our operatives, keeping them trained and informed throughout this terrible pandemic.”
