At MTS we fully support Road Safety Week 2020 and its key message that there is No Need to Speed, whether driving for work or personal reasons.
As a large fleet operator, we expect and encourage the highest safety standards from our professional drivers.
We keep a close eye on speed through regular audits using our vehicle tracking system, as well as random site speed checks using a speed gun. We know that reducing vehicle speeds is one of the most effective ways to avoid accidents. These checks apply to company car drivers, as well as to our tanker, lorry and van drivers.
If a driver needs extra support or training, perhaps after a period of absence, we have a dedicated Driver Assessor with extensive experience who carries out one-to-one assessments. These assessments both ensure compliance with our company standards from all drivers and, where necessary, help to educate and build confidence.
Drivers found breaking speed limits through the tracker system are informed and disciplinary action may be taken against any persistent offenders.
Ian Watson, Head of SHEQW, said; “Road Safety Week is a great opportunity for everyone to think about their driving habits and behaviours. We can all do our bit to save lives, fines and points on our license by being responsible, careful drivers.”
