Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) is a new UK regulation requiring non-SME’s (Small to Medium sized Enterprises) to report their energy usage and carbon emissions in their annual reports.
We are publishing our first SECR for 2019/20 as a full environmental report for the business and from now on this will be published annually alongside our financial accounts. As the first ever MTS SECR environmental report, this document will be used for comparison in future years to help us benchmark our progress in reducing our environmental impact and carbon emissions.
At MTS we have always cared for the environment as core principle of our business, working to drive down our carbon footprint while maintaining competitiveness. Read more about our environmental philosophy here.
As operators of a fleet of HGVs and specialist plant, the vast majority of our energy use (and cause of carbon emissions) is fuel. We are working hard in many areas to reduce our impact and offset as much of this transport-based energy usage as possible.
These efforts include our continuous fleet renewal programme and acquisition of more fuel efficient vehicles, 85% of our current fleet now meet Euro 6 standards.
In other areas of the business, we screen and recycle sewage waste, reducing the number of tanker journeys required and composting waste into beneficial soil conditioner. We recycle biosolids from waste water treatment works on agricultural land. These measures divert tens of thousands of waste from landfill every year.
