Blocked or damaged drains and sewers can cause overflow and sewage contaminated flooding to property and land.
Nobody wants to find sewage waste overflowing into their home, business or garden. When it does happen our crews work hard to clean up and put everything back as it was as quickly as possible.
An MTS team recently faced a tough job when a blocked drain in Broomfield Road, Faversham, Kent created complications.
The emergency request came into the MTS out-of-hours team and a two man team attended a severe blockage which took several hours to clear overnight. When the team eventually managed to clear the blockage, the waste and heavy silt moved further downstream and created a second blockage.
This second blockage caused localised external flooding to two properties.
The blockage clearance team left the site at 5.30am and requested a clean-up crew to attend to the flooding. Later that morning the MTS clean-up crew arrived to tackle the contaminated areas of the two gardens.
There was a substantial amount of contaminated waste to remove and the clean-up operation took a total of two days.
MTS also arranged the replacement of turf which had been damaged by the recovery works in the customer’s garden.
The customer was extremely happy with all the efforts MTS made to get the issue resolved as quickly as possible. He also commended the teams working on site and their attitude towards getting the job done swiftly.
Scott Diamond, Fleet Operations Director at MTS said; “Clearing up after a flood incident is hard and time-consuming work. I’d like to thank the MTS teams who worked hard on this tough job and produced an excellent outcome for the customer.”
The MTS blocked drain service is available 24 hours, seven days a week and we aim to respond to emergency calls within four hours. You should always act quickly when you discover a drain problem to avoid overflow of sewage.
To help avoid blockages, only ever flush pee, poo and paper down the toilet. That means no sanitary items, wet wipes, food waste, fat, grease or anything else. Fat, oils and grease can create particularly nasty problems over time.
