We’re investing in young people and their future careers through apprenticeships at MTS.
Our apprenticeships offer the opportunity to learn on the job and expand work skills in ways that might not be available at college. We’re flexible about the length of each apprenticeship as we want each young person to have the option to work to their chosen level of NVQ.
Apprentices who do well during their time with us can be offered a full time, permanent position at MTS. Tom O’Sullivan completed his apprenticeship successfully and is now an administrator in our Severn Trent Water contract team.
We currently employ six apprentices at MTS, they’re developing their skills and experience in different teams across the business.
Ellie Staples, 17, is working in the HR department at the MTS head office in Rochester, Kent. Ellie says; “I wanted an opportunity to get used to being in full-time work, get real-life experience and to earn some money. My mum works in a similar role and I knew I would find HR interesting. I really enjoy meeting new people and knowing that I have made a good start in my working life.”
Also at head office Andrew Humphreys is working as a finance apprentice at MTS head office. Andrew wanted to learn as much as possible about his chosen career while working full time and integrating into the work environment.
And it’s not all about office-based opportunities. We currently have four apprentice workshop fitters: Jake Brown and Jack Gorst based at the head office workshop in Medway; Jack Durban in Camberley, Surrey and Zathras Livermore at Irene House in Ashford, Kent.
For young people with an interest in vehicle mechanics we offer hands-on experience – and a salary. As well as key work skills, our apprentices gain independence and confidence in the work environment.
Zathras Livermore is working at our Ashford depot, which is the base for our household drainage services. Seventeen year old Zathras says: “As an apprentice you never stop learning, you’re always seeing new things. Each day brings a new and more exciting challenge – it’s never boring and always busy.”
At MTS we’re committed to expanding apprenticeship opportunities in the drainage and waste management industry.
