For more than 30 years we’ve been providing expert services for households and businesses with private sewage systems.
A recent call-out to a rural property to empty the septic tank led to further investigations and advice from our experienced team – see the pictures above.
The householder had found that the ground around the tank had become boggy with an unpleasant smell.
Following a routine empty at the farm property, our Customer Liaison Manager visited to assess the situation and advise on solutions. Rodding the outlet revealed an obstruction at around two metres along the pipe.
We re-attended within a few days to empty the septic tank once again so that it was clear to insert a portable CCTV camera survey system. This condition survey showed that the pipe had dropped, causing the blockage. Using a sonde (an electronic probe which transmits a signal to show its position), we marked the exact location of the damage on the surface.
Our team advised the customer on the best method of rehabilitation, which on this occasion requires digging up the existing pipe for replacement. In many circumstances it’s possible to re-line a pipe internally without any digging or disruption.
We offer free site visits and can advise on all aspects of private sewage management from choosing the correct system, installation and maintenance through to emptying, servicing and repairs.
Our CCTV survey units pinpoint problems in both mains drainage and private drainage systems. If you’re experiencing problems with blocked drains or difficulties with your private system, we can identify the cause and advise on the most cost-effective solutions.
If you’ve recently moved into a home or business premises without mains drainage, it’s worth knowing the difference between a cesspit and a septic tank.
If your private sewage system was installed after 1 January 2015, or you’re planning to install a new system now, you will need to comply with the latest regulations which are enforced by the Environment Agency. Read our useful guide to the rules and regulations here.
